Koorumala View Point or simply Koorumala is situated near Elanji in Ernakulam district of Kerala and it is 3 km from Elanji, 10 km From Piravom and 45kms from Ernakulam city. One of the highest hilltops in the district, it is increasingly visited by tourists who are on their way to Vagamon and Idukki.

This spot can be chosen as a one-day holiday spent location. Both sunrise and sunset from this hilltop are mesmerising. Also, this presents us with a bird’s eye view of an endless stretch of green land and low-lying areas. The watchtower here gifts us a panoramic view of the surrounding districts ie, Alappuzha, Ernakulam and Kottayam, which also includes the view of the watchtower in Alappuzha(during clear sky).

Easily accessible through the narrow ghat road from Elanji, this hill station stands out for its sprawling grasslands where the families can enjoy a few quiet moments, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. കേരളത്തിലെ തന്നെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരംകൂടിയ ആനമുടിയുടെ ഭാഗമായ ചൊക്രാൻമുടിയിലേക്കു ഒരു യാത്ര, 2  കൊല്ലമായി പ്രവേശനം കർശനമായി ഇവിടേയ്ക്ക് നിരോദിച്ചിരിക്കുകായായിരിക്കുന്നു. കുറെ കാലത്തെ കാത്തിരിപ്പിനൊടുവിൽ ആ ദിവസം വന്നെത്തി ചൊക്രാൻമുടി കയറാൻ ഒരു അവസരം. ഈ വര്ഷം നവംബർ 26-ആം തിയതി മുതൽ kerala Forest & Wildlife Department ൻറെയും ചൊക്രമുടി വനം സംരക്ഷണ സമിതിയുടെയും ആഭ്യമുഖ്യത്തിൽ ആണ് ബൈസൺ ട്രയൽ എന്ന പേരിൽ ഈ ട്രെക്കിങ്ങ് നടക്കുന്നത്, സ്വദേശികൾക്കു 400 രൂപയും വിദേശികൾക്ക് 600 എന്ന നിരക്കിൽ ആണ് നിരക്ക് ഈടാക്കുന്നത്, നമ്മുടെ ഒപ്പം ഒരു ഗൈഡ് കൂടി ഉണ്ടാവും, ട്രെക്കിങ്ങ് തുടങ്ങുത് മുതൽ അവസാനിക്കുന്നത് വരെ അവർ നമ്മോടൊപ്പം ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും.

അങ്ങനെ ഞങളുടെ യാത്ര ആരംഭിച്ചു നമ്മുടെ സ്വന്തം ആനവണ്ടയിൽ കയറി മൂന്നാർ ഇറങ്ങി, ഒന്ന് ഫ്രഷ് അപ്പ് ആണ് നേരെ ഒരു ഓട്ടോ ചേട്ടനെ കൂട്ടി നേരെ ഗ്യാപ് റോഡിലേക്ക്, അവിടെ നിന്നും ആണ് ട്രെക്കിങിനുള്ള പാസ് എടുക്കുക്കേണ്ടത്, കഴിഞ്ഞ പ്രളയത്തിന് ഉണ്ടായ മണ്ണിടിച്ചിലിൽ ഗ്യാപ് റോഡ് മുഴുവനായി തകർന്നുപോയി അത് കൊണ്ട് തന്നെ ഗ്യാപ്‌ റോഡുവഴിയുള്ള ഗാതാഗതം ആകെ തടസപ്പെട്ടിരുക്കുവാണ്. ട്രെക്കിങ്ങ് തുടങ്ങുന്നതിനു മുൻപ് ഞങൾ ദേവികുളത്തു നിന്നും പ്രഭാത ഭക്ഷണവും കഴിച്ചു കുറച്ചു പാഴ്സലും വാങ്ങി നേരെ ഗ്യാപ്പ്റോഡിലുള്ള ഓഫീസിലേക്ക്.

അവിടെ നിന്നും എല്ലാവരും പാസ് എടുത്തു ഒപ്പം ഒരു ഡിക്ലറേഷനും എഴുതിക്കൊടുത്തു ഞങളുടെ കൂടെ ഗൈഡ് ആയി വിജയകുമാർ ആണു വന്നിരുന്നത്, കുറച്ചു നിർ്‌ദ്ദേശ്ശങ്ങൾ ഒക്കെ നൽകിയ ശേഷം ഞങൾ യാത്ര ആരംഭിച്ചു. നല്ല കുത്തനേയുള്ള കയറ്റമാണ് ഏകദേശം 3km ദൂരമുണ്ട് ഒരു 3 മുതൽ 5 മണിക്കൂർ സമയമെടുക്കും ചൊക്രാൻമുടിയുടെ മുകളിൽ എത്താൻ. 6 പേർക്ക് ഒരു ഗൈഡ് എന്ന രീതിയിൽ ആണ്, രാവിലെ 8മണി കഴിഞ്ഞു ആളണ് ഞങൾ ട്രെക്കിങ്ങ് ആരംഭിച്ചതു, അതുകൊണ്ടു തന്നെ ചെറിയ വെയിലുവന്നു തുടങ്ങിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. എന്തായാലും ഞങൾ കുത്തനെയുള്ള കയറ്റം പതുക്കെ കയറി തുടങ്ങി, 15മിനിറ്റ്  യാത്ര കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോൾ തന്നെ നല്ലപോലെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള കാഴ്ചകൾ കണ്ടു തുടങ്ങി. നീലക്കുറിഞ്ഞി പൂക്കുമ്പോൾ ഈ മലയാകെ കാഴ്ചയുടെ ഒരു വസന്തം തന്നെയാണ് നമ്മുക്ക് നൽകുന്നത്

ഞങളുടെ യാത്ര തുടരും തോറും നമ്മൾ സ്വർഗത്തിലേക്കുള്ള പടവുകൾ കയറുന്നപോലെയാണ്, നല്ല തണുത്തകാറ്റും ഒപ്പം കോടമഞ്ഞും കൂടി ആകുമ്പോൾ ഒരു സുഖം തന്നെയാണ്. ചൊക്രമുടിയുടെ പകുതി  ദൂരം കഴയുമ്പോൾ ഒരു കുരിശ്ശ് കാണാം, ഇവിടെ വരെ എല്ലാവർഷവും ദുഖവെള്ളിയാഴ്ചയിൽ കുരിശുമലകയറ്റം ഉണ്ട്, ആ സമയത്തു മാത്രം ആയിരുന്നു. ഇതിനു മുൻപ് ചൊക്രമുടി തുറന്നു കൊടുത്തിരുന്നത്. ഇവടെ വരെ എത്തിയപ്പോൾ കുത്തനെയുള്ള കയറ്റം കയറിയതിന്റെ ക്ഷീണം മാറാൻ കുറച്ചു സമയം അവിടെ ഇരുന്നു. ഇനിയാണ് ചൊക്രമുടിയുടെ മുകളിയ്ക്കുള്ള കയറ്റം ശരിക്കും തുടങ്ങുന്നത്. ഒരു ഷോല കടന്നു വേണം മുന്നോട്ടു നീങ്ങാൻ. വെയിലുണ്ടെകിലും ഷോലയുടെ ഉള്ളിൽ കയറിയപ്പോൾ നല്ല തണുപ്പുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.. അങ്ങനെ ഷൊലെ  കടന്നു ഞങൾ മുന്നോട്ടു നീങ്ങി.

ഞങളുടെ ടീമിനു തൊട്ടു പുറകെ ഒരു വിദേശികളുടെ ഒരു സംഘമുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. എന്തായാലും അവരും ഞങളുടെ ഒപ്പം എത്തി, ഈ ട്രെക്കിങ്ങ് ആരംഭിച്ചിട്ട് ആഴ്ചകൾ പോലും ആയില്ല അവര് ഏതൊക്കെ എങനെ തേടിപിടിച്ചു വരണോ ആവോ? യാത്രകൾ ചെയ്യുന്ന അവരുടെ രീതികൾ കാണുമ്പോൾ ശെരിക്കും അസൂയ തോന്നും. പോരുന്ന വഴിയിലെ എവിടെ നോക്കിയാലും നല്ല അടിപൊളി ദൃശ്യങ്ങൾ ആണ്, ദേവികുളവും, ബൈസൺ വാലിയും, ഗ്യാപ് റോഡും ഒക്കെ ദൂരെയായി കാണാം.. മുകളിയ്ക്കു പോകും തോറും തണുപ്പും, കാറ്റും കൂടി വരുന്നുണ്ട്. താരതമ്യേനേ ദൂരം കുറവെങ്കിലും നല്ല കുത്തനേയുള്ള കയറ്റം നല്ല പോലെ നമ്മളെ അവശരാക്കും. 7200 അടി ഉയരത്തിലാണ് ചൊക്രാൻമുടി സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്നത്. ഇടതു തലയുർത്തി നിൽക്കുന്ന മീശപുലിമലയും ആനമുടിയും. ചുറ്റുമുള്ള കാഴ്ചകൾക്ക് മാറ്റു കൂട്ടും. ഒടുവിൽ ഞങ്ങൾ ചൊക്രാൻമുടിയുടെ ഏറ്റവും മുകളിൽ എത്തി. ഒരു പാടുകാലത്തെ ഒരു ആഗ്രഹം സഫലമായ സന്തോഷവും കേരളിത്തിലെ ഏറ്റവും ഉയരം കൂടിയ ഒരു ട്രെക്കിങ്ങ് കൂടി പൂർത്തീകരിച്ച സന്തോഷവും.

കുറച്ചു സമയം അവിടെ ഇരുന്ന് ആ തണുത്ത കാറ്റും കോട മഞ്ഞും ഒക്കെ കൊണ്ടു, ഇതു വരെ ഇവിടെ ഒരു പ്ലാസ്റ്റിക്ക് മാലിന്യം പോലും വന്നു എത്തിയിട്ടേയില്ല, ദയവായി ഇനി വരുന്ന താലമുറക്കുകൂടി ഇത് ഒക്കെ കാണാനും ആസ്വദിക്കാനും ഉള്ള അവകാശം ഉണ്ടെന്നു ഓർക്കുന്നത് നന്നായിരിക്കും, അതു കൊണ്ടു തന്നെ നമ്മള് തന്നെ ഇതൊക്കെ ഇതു പോലെ കാത്തുസൂക്ഷിക്കാൻ കടപെട്ടവരാണ്, യാത്രയെ ശരിക്കും സ്നേഹിക്കുന്നവർ ഇനിയും കുറച്ചു പേരെങ്കിലും നമ്മുടെ കൂടെ തന്നെയുണ്ട്..
